The proverb says “Familiarity breeds contempt! “.. While I slightly agree here is the root of the issue.

The root of that tree is a jaded perspective. When you view someone in a respectful manner, there will be no room for contempt or disrespect. Some people cannot adjust to the different hat’s others wear. They are comfortable with one but highly on edge about another.

I have always been close to authority. Whether it’s a spiritual leader, boss, supervisors or the CEO. I have favor with them but one thing I would never do is to forget who they are at their core. I remind myself about the nature of the relationship and adjust accordingly.

What does that look like?… glad you asked! I could go to dinner and enjoy an exchange of conversation and laughter (as a friend) but clock in the next morning saying, “How can I assist you today Sir” and mean it.

When you lose respect for someone, it leaves the door open for honor to run out in any direction and gives room contempt move in.
